Built Just
For You

Established in 2020, the Jack W. Liebert Military and Veteran Resource Center is your central hub at Ashland University. Known on campus as “The Jack,” this facility was built by and exclusively for military-connected and veteran students on campus. One step inside and you’ll know you belong here.

Take a Peek Inside

One of the main things veterans miss once they leave the military is the camaraderie with fellow military members. We identified this gap here on our own campus for military-connected students and decided to create a great place, exclusively for you.

The Jack W. Liebert Military & Veteran Resource Center is your central point for everything you need as a military-connected student on campus. This beautiful center houses military student service offices, access to academic and mental health counseling services, a USO-style lounge, study spaces and communal spaces. The Jack was designed just for you, providing access to everything you need to transition successfully into college life and equip yourself for a successful future.

Designed with direct input from veterans, military-connected students and their families, The Jack includes:

  • Conference spaces

  • Offices for Military Student Services and support staff

  • A USO-style veterans’ lounge and bar where veteran students and staff can share a sense of camaraderie in a comfortable space

  • Game room with ping-pong table and TVs

  • Fully-stocked kitchen, including snacks

  • Beautiful outdoor patio area with a propane grill and cornhole

  • Study areas

  • Two studio-apartment-style receiving rooms to provide temporary and emergency housing for veterans and their families at a moment’s notice

  • Living communities are also being created to meet the specific needs of current student veterans living on campus

How This Started

In keeping with Ashland University's commitment to “Accent on the Individual” and its expression through The Ashland Promise, the university established the Jack W. Liebert Military & Veteran Resource Center (“The Jack”) on campus. The Jack's mission is to provide individualized resources for veterans like you enrolled at Ashland University.

Sparked by her passion for veterans in the Ashland University community, Debbie Liebert Karl (’72) contributed $1,000,000 to establish the Military & Veteran Resource Center. Her personal plea to the Governor of Ohio and his team secured an equal match to her gift. Inspired by her Navy veteran father and the fact that Ashland showed continual dedication to her personal success during her undergraduate years, her dream was to give back to both the university and its veteran students in a way that could make a real difference in their individual lives.

Dedicated in 2020, The Jack provides you with everything you need as a military-connected or veteran student on campus. The Jack works as a one-stop-shop, and gives you access to everything you need to transition successfully into college life and equip yourself for a successful future.

Built Just

One of the things veterans miss once they leave the military is the camaraderie with fellow military members. We identified this gap here on our own campus for military-connected students and decided to create a great place, exclusively for you.

The Jack W. Liebert Military & Veteran Resource Center is your central point for everything you need as a military-connected student on campus. This beautiful center houses military student service offices, access to academic and mental health counseling services, a USO-style lounge, study spaces, recreation spaces and communal areas. The Jack was designed just for you, providing access to everything you need to transition successfully into college life and prepare yourself for a successful future.

How This is Unique

For military-connected and veteran students and their families, belonging at Ashland University is an experience you can’t find anywhere else.

Along with the day-to-day benefits we offer military-connected and veteran students through our continuing commitment to “Accent on the Individual” and its lived-out expression in The Ashland Promise, we also create opportunities throughout the year for you to connect with other military-connected students and their families.

This dedication includes, but certainly isn’t limited to the following parts of the Ashland experience.
